On this episode of Stand Out Be You, we’re talking with a solopreneur who’s giving back and creating her own lifestyle, with skills she’s transitioned from the corporate world to the business she has today.

April Pertuis is a producer, speaker, writer, and journalist with over 25 years in the video and television industry, and she’s on a mission to help others tell their stories and share them with others through LIGHTBeamers—which means that her passion is right in line with our message here on Stand Out Be You!

She’s here today to help us learn more about business storytelling in social media and video, with plenty of industry tips about building community, being relatable, speaking to an audience, storytelling on video, and much more. Tune in to hear her tips and insights!

Business Storytelling on Social Media and Video

Your story is really your superpower. When we share our stories, we shine a light—because there’s nothing that makes other people feel not alone than hearing someone else’s story.

Something magical happens when you get in front of someone on video. Seeing your voice, your mannerisms, your personality—and most importantly, your smile—can help you connect with your audience so much faster.

As April reminds us, though, that doesn’t mean you need to worry about becoming a journalist overnight! Showing up and using the tools available through video and social media will help you understand the power of your own story, and just how far telling it will take you.

With the bulk of her career dedicated to interviewing people in the world of video, as well as producing and writing for television, April transitioned her foundation in the corporate world to helping others tell their own stories. A lifelong lover of stories, she’s learned a lot about human nature—including what stories resonate and what don’t—and her insights and tips are designed to get her clients (and our listeners!) a little closer to digging their own story out of themselves.

Listen On to Find Out:

  • Why it’s so important for businesses to tell their own stories
  • Tips on how to tell stories in business and in life
  • Why using video to share your story is so effective
  • April’s basic baby steps to storytelling, to help get you started right away
  • How to get over your fear of telling your own story
  • How to know when you’re telling “too much” of your story
  • How to bring storytelling into your business in different ways
